GROWTH-PROMOTING BACTERIA SUCH AS OLIVE TREE BIOSTIMULANTS
It is intended to contribute to the development of bacterial biostimulants for olive crops.
A BIOTECHNOLOGY-BASED TOOL
Bacterial-based biostimulants will allow the attenuation of saline stress associated with restriction irrigation.
MICROBIOME ENGINEERING FOR SALINE STRESS ATTENUATION
Bacterial-based biostimulants will allow modulating the plant's natural microbiome and attenuating stress responses.
PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR
Biostimulants may be validated under field conditions through partnerships with private producers.
Project
HALIUS
The microbial communities associated with plants (phytomicrobiomes), and particularly plant-growth promoting bacteria (PGPB), are decisive in adapting hosts to stress and improving their physiological condition. This beneficial effect is exerted through the expression of enzymes and phytohormones, mobilization of nutrients, removal of toxic pollutants, attenuation of stress responses, stimulation of immune defenses and biocontrol of phytopathogenic agents.
Info Sheets
The team conducts studies both in the field and in the laboratory to understand how the bacteria can be used to improve the health of olive trees.
Knowledge and skills serving the community
- Microbiological analysis of soil, water and plant material
- Detection and quantification of phytopathogenic bacteria
- Feasibility assessment of microbial biostimulants
